WHY USE FITNESSMATE?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Are you interested in cultivating good health... feeling and looking good?
Are you convinced that by being the best that you can be that the 'quality'
of your life will also be the best that it can be? Perhaps you have made a
commitment to pursue good health and physical fitness by eating right and
exercising regularly. If you have tried to do this at some time and have
had the feeling that it is not working, or nothing is happening, you are not
alone. Many have said, 'I have been good yet I can see no change for the
better.' As well as, 'No matter how hard I try I can't seem to make any
progress toward my goals.'
Attempts to attain physical fitness or achieve sports performance goals
require considerable time to complete. As progress is made the changes come
slowly and are difficult to detect. Not knowing if progress is being made
can lead to frustration and indecision.
Now there is a software tool that can document and open your eyes to progress. It does it in real time, performance by performance, as it happens.
It will help you appreciate whether or not your activity is actually working
as you had planned. As well as if your commitment to reach your fitness and
performance goals is going to meet your schedule demands. This appreciation
in turn will reassure you to keep your chin up and keep going, to make some
adjustments, or better plan your future activities. In any event it will open
your eyes to the ever changing situation and give you more control over it.
This software tool is Avocation Technologies "FitnessMate" and it can make a
big difference for you, your team, organization, or club.
OVERVIEW
-=-=-=-=-
Undertaking a program of strenuous exercise is an individual decision
usually made in excellent health after consulting with a personal physician.
No attempt to prescribe activity is made, and none should be assumed by the
user of this software. If you have a chronic illness such as heart disease,
hypertension, or depression, your illness, combined with certain medications
and training might make strenuous exercise dangerous. You should discuss
your plans for undertaking a program of strenuous exercise with your personal
physician, and be certain that he / she approves before beginning the program.
Once you begin your program, there is a certain amount of risk that you are
assuming... so be especially careful. It is a wise person that moderates
their program of regular exercise to achieve long term benefit and not
overnight success.

SHAREWARE LICENSING AND DISTRIBUTION
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Thanks for trying this introductory shareware version of FitnessMate!
This software and documentation is protected by both United States
copyright law and international treaty provisions. This "Shareware"
version of FitnessMate is not public domain and it is not free software.
You may continue to evaluate it for one month, or fifty user entries,
whichever comes first, without any obligation to purchase the program.
After trying the program, you must either purchase it or stop using it.
You are granted a limited license to use this evaluation copy for trial use
on a private, noncommercial, nongovernmental basis, for the express
purpose of determining whether FitnessMate is suitable for your needs. At
the end of this trial period you must either register with Avocation
Technologies or discontinue using FitnessMate.
You may make copies of the software and documentation only for your own
use or for the use of others in conducting their own trial use, however
all materials relating to this license statement, software, documentation,
order information, copyright and trademark statements must remain intact as
supplied in the original shareware package. You may not distribute, rent,
sublicense, integrate or lease the software or the documentation. You may
not alter, modify, or adapt the software or documentation, including but
not limited to translating, decompiling, reverse assembling, or creating
derivative works.
If, after the trial period has ended, you continue to use this product you
must pay for the service it provides. FitnessMate is not free nor is
Avocation Technologies giving away free software. We are giving you the
opportunity to try FitnessMate, without risk, before you pay for it. After
trying the program, you must either purchase it or stop using it. There are
no risk or refund problems associated with an offer like this and everything
is being done to insure that you get a good value for your software dollar
with FitnessMate.
The base registration fee schedule is contained in the file 'REGISTER.TXT'.
Registering will entitle you to continue to use FitnessMate beyond the trial
period as well as entitle you to program and technical support. Should you
decide that you would like the latest release (or a pending release if you
already have the latest) appropriate information is contained in this file.
Operators of electronic bulletin boards (Sysops) are encouraged to post
FitnessMate for downloading by their users.
FitnessMate may be uploaded to and downloaded from commercial systems such
as CompuServe, the Source, and others, as long as the only charge paid by
the subscriber is for on-line time and there is no charge for the program.
Those copying, sharing, and / or electronically transmitting the program are
required not to delete or modify the copyright notice and restrictive notices
from the program or documentation; anyone doing so will be treated as a
contributory copyright violator.
If you are passing this program on to others, uploading it to a bulletin board
system, or including it in a users group library, do not separate the files
contained in the distribution archive - pass the entire archive on to the
intended party. This ensures that those who receive the program will have all
the correct configuration utilities and documentation necessary to get
FitnessMate up and running quickly. A listing of what files you should have
and the purpose of each is listed later in this manual.
The FitnessMate documentation and program files may not be modified by users.
The program may not be separated from the documentation when distributed.
Printed or Photocopied ("Xeroxed") copies of the FitnessMate documentation
(i.e., this manual) may not be distributed or sold without the written
permission of Avocation Technologies.
No person other than the author, William Joseph Johnson, may accept payment
or royalties for this program.

PUBLIC DOMAIN AND SHAREWARE LIBRARIES
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Distributors of "public domain" or user-supported software libraries must
obtain written permission to distribute copies of FitnessMate. No one may
use FitnessMate as a promotion for any commercial venture or as an enticement
for the user to pay for any program, product, or service unless they have
received the express written permission from Avocation Technologies.
In order to distribute FitnessMate, a dealer or disk vendor must comply with
the following conditions:
1.) You must obtain written permission from Avocation Technologies to
distribute FitnessMate. Please use the vendor application supplied
in the program file 'VENDOR.TXT'. If you receive no reply,
write again. Silence does NOT constitute permission, and you
may NOT distribute "pending" receipt of permission.
2.) A maximum disk fee of $10.00 as set by Avocation Technologies
in the vendor contract must not be exceeded. FitnessMate may not
be included on any disk sold for more than this maximum. Major
CD-ROM or optical disk libraries are exempt from this restriction,
provided that they have Avocation Technologies permission to
distribute FitnessMate.
3.) Vendors may not modify or delete ANY files on the disk.
Vendors may add a "GO" program, and/or a reasonable number of
small text files designed to assist or provide a service to
the user, but these added files must be easily identifiable
and end-users must be allowed to delete the added files.
4.) Vendors must make a reasonable effort to distribute only the
most recent versions of FitnessMate. All vendors who have
requested and received written permission to distribute
FitnessMate will receive new MAJOR releases as they are issued.
VENDORS MUST COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Vendors must make an attempt to educate users on the nature of Shareware.
Catalogs, advertisements, order forms, and all disks sold should contain
wording describing the nature of shareware, and should explicitly state that
no part of disk sale revenues are paid to the programs' authors. When vendor
catalogs or advertisements carry both Shareware and PD programs, the Shareware
programs must be differentiated from the public domain programs in some way
(in the description, with an asterisk, by listing the registration fee, etc.).

FITNESSMATE QUICK START
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
1.) For 'FMATE*.ZIP' files use PKUNZIP.EXE v.1.10 or higher to extract
the FitnessMate archive onto a floppy disk, any size will do. No
special PKUNZIP 'switches' are required.
2.) To set up the program on your HARD DISK... (you will need about
six hundred and fifty kilobytes of free space.)
TYPE 'INSTALL' followed by the letter designation of the floppy
drive your installing FROM and the letter designation of the hard
drive your installing TO. FOR EXAMPLE: INSTALL A C
(A being the floppy and C the hard drive.) That's all there is to it.
3.) From your FitnessMate directory, type FM.EXE to run FitnessMate
for the first time and carefully answer the setup questions.
4.) Type 'F'. Then type 'P' to OPEN a different FitnessMate account.
Choose number two for 'Sample O. Data' to select the example FitnessMate
account. Type 'S' for sport. Type 'R' to select the SPORT 'running'.
The year should be set on 1993, and the sport set to running to access
the data in this example file.
5.) Try FitnessMate's many reporting and graphing functions, enter some
performance data, change colors, etc. Experiment...
DEFAULT PROGRAM SETUP FOR REGISTERED USERS
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If you are a REGISTERED USER UPGRADING from a previous version and
you have used the default directory (FMATE) you will get a 'file
exists overwrite? Y/N' message for each file as the self extracting
archive executes. Answer YES (keep hitting the Y key) for all
of the files until the old have all been overwritten by the new.
Since upgrades have been made to the structure and method FitnessMate
uses to access it's data files, the data files you have already
created will need to be changed to match the current configuration.
I cannot stress how important it is to make a backup copy (or two) of
these difficult to recreate data files. If you have not already done
this STOP and do it now! The data files of course, are those files
with names and the extension '.DAT' for example 'WILJOHNS.DAT' is mine.
You have been provided a FitnessMate file conversion utility called
'UPDATE.EXE' to do the necessary conversion. Simply run it once by
typing 'update' from your FitnessMate directory and it automatically
upgrades all the data files that are present then it self destructs.
It is only meant to be run once and running it twice will ruin the
data files. That is the reason it deletes itself. Do not run it a
second time over your data files or they will be gone forever. BEFORE
running this conversion utility, make double sure that you have made
a backup copy of your data files. The data files of course, are those
files with names and the extension '.DAT' for example 'WILJOHNS.DAT'
is mine. AFTER running the utility start up the new version and do
a quick check to make sure everything is ok. View your averages and
the statistical mean to make sure things are ok and not coming up as
zero. Do a couple of graphs to see that the program is happy with
your new data files. I have checked this very thoroughly and verified
that it works. However, I am only human and that is why I am asking
you to make the quick double check!
See the 'What's new!' section in the program documentation file
'Fitness.doc' for more information. This FitnessMate file conversion
utility called 'UPDATE.EXE' is copyright 1992-93 by William Joseph Johnson
all rights reserved and is of course, only available to REGISTERED USERS.
This upgrade process WILL NOT HARM or do anything to your program
configuration or DATA files and is absolutely positively necessary
to use the outstanding new release!
FitnessMate will function normally and all of your DATA files etc.;
will remain intact and will be modified to conform to the new format
which enhances performance. Otherwise everything will be as it was
prior to the upgrade only you will be using the new version.
DEFAULT PROGRAM SETUP FOR SHAREWARE VERSION
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If you are evaluating the SHAREWARE VERSION and UPGRADING from a
previous version in order to complete your 30 day trial period you
must erase the previous version and install the new one.
Since upgrades have been made to the structure and method FitnessMate
uses to access it's data files, the data files you have already
created will no longer work. The data files of course, are those files
with names and the extension '.DAT' for example 'WILJOHNS.DAT' is mine.
You may evaluate the new version for the remainder of your thirty day
trial period. Under no circumstances may your trial period exceed the
limits of the shareware license.
The FitnessMate file conversion utility called 'UPDATE.EXE' is copyright
1992-93 by William Joseph Johnson all rights reserved and is only
available to REGISTERED USERS. The only way to obtain this utility,
which will enable you to keep going with the data files you created using
the previous SHAREWARE version, is to purchase the program.
MANUAL PROGRAM SETUP
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If you want to set the program up MANUALLY it has been compressed
using Haruyasu Yoshizaki's LHA v2.13 into a self extracting archive.
Copy the package into your directory, then run the FitnessMate self
extracting archive (the *.exe file). It will then extract itself
and will essentially be 'ready to go.' You should then delete the
self extracting archive as it will still be there in your directory
taking up valuable disk space.

CONFIGURING FITNESSMATE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Many features of FitnessMate will be permanently set from the moment
FitnessMate is run for the first time. When you start the program, you
will be asked for the drive and directory that FitnessMate will reside on
and be run from. Then you will be asked for your name or the name of the
first user account. From this moment on FitnessMate will be installed.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CONFIGURING FITNESSMATE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
When setting FitnessMate up, there are a few things you should consider:
If you have a hard disk, you should use it for maintaining FitnessMate
and it's data files (i.e. set your program file directory to somewhere
on your hard drive). FitnessMate is geared toward the hard disk user.
It is a disk intensive program and 'best' results are achieved when run
and operated from a hard disk. If you are running on a floppy drive,
though the program will work normally, slower response due to hardware
limitations should be expected. The data files that FitnessMate creates
however, (those files with a '.DAT' extension) should be backed up to
floppy or tape regularly for safety sake.
If possible, using one of the commercially available disk caching systems
is recommended, as they incorporate features into their programs such
as being able to use extended and expanded memory and the like that are
not feasible to include in FitnessMate. They will increase the performance
of FitnessMate, and your systems overall performance will improve.
When setting your dot matrix printer up for printing reports, set the paper
so that the print head is on the first line of the new sheet, or on the edge
that separates the sheets. FitnessMate's report output to the printer is all
calculated for this arrangement. Once you know this you will never waste
a sheet with FitnessMate.
If you like you can include FitnessMate's directory in your DOS PATH as
well. Although this is not necessary, it will enable you to run
FitnessMate from anywhere in your system without having to change to that
directory before running FitnessMate. Setting the PATH for this is only
beneficial to those using hard drives.

UNDERSTANDING FitnessMate's RELATIONAL CAPABILITIES
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
FitnessMate has relational capabilities... what this means is that you
can ask FitnessMate a question/assign a task, and FitnessMate will
obediently retrieve the answer/answers!
Of course this has some limitations and is really far removed from anything
as spectacular as artificial intelligence, but it does perform spectacularly
if you understand the constraints it must obide by. It focuses on distance.
Participants of all the different sports activities can appreciate that they
are all specified in terms of distance. For example: the duathlon, 5K 30K 5K,
the 1 mile walk to work in the morning, the 100 yard freestyle, and the
marathon 26.2 miles.
You ask your questions in the INQUIRY function found in the FILE pull down
window. All functions found in the VIEW and GRAPH pull down windows will obey
whatever the current INQUIRY DEFINITION or INQUIRY is at all times!
When setting the INQUIRY DEFINITION selecting one through six will obtain
the CURRENT SPORT data entries relative to the distance inquiry selected and
seven through twelve will obtain any and every data entry regardless of sport
relative to the distance inquiry selected.
The program defaults to any and every data entry greater than one meter...
If you want to find out how you are doing in the 100 meter dash you must
first go to the INQUIRY function, set the distance to 100 meters and then
select one (1) for the CURRENT SPORT data entries (running) exclusively
equal to 100 meters.
The questions you pose to FitnessMate revolve around the stated distance.
Here are some examples: greater than 1 meter, not equal to 1500 meters,
less than 2000000.0 meters (the maximum distance), equal to 10000 meters,
et.al. As a side effect of this new relational capability, depending on the
current inquiry, you may receive no data, or too much data. If you have set
the inquiry to be less than 1 meter for instance you should expect to find
no data. As you can see the INQUIRY FUNCTION is what determines how many of
FitnessMate's functions will respond.
USING THE MENUS / MOUSE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
FitnessMate has a very flexible, cursor or mouse driven, keyboard
'hot key' type interface that lends access to pull down menu windows and
their individual selections. Basically the letter / number is typed, and
then a key, or mouse button is pressed if no immediate action is taken by
the program.
The mouse requires accurate pointing and shooting but can be 'dragged' around
the screen to a desired location with the button held down. It selects a
function when the button is released. In many instances clicking the mouse
button will be the equivalent of hitting the enter / return key or space bar.
There are a few ways that this keyboard interface can be used. Selections can
be made by entering any of the 'hot keys' which appear as highlighted letters
/ numbers, or, the program can be navigated using the cursor (arrow) keys and
selections can be made with either the space bar, the enter / return key, or
the mouse.
If the former method is used one thing to keep in mind is that 'hot keys'
appearing as capitol letters can be entered as upper or lower case and either
will be accepted. The exceptions to this rule are those program features that
have their highlighted letter in lower case. Case is important in the
selection of these features found in the pull down windows. The mouse will
also get you just about everywhere you want to go. If you use a mouse you
will find the program to be very responsive and you will rarely have to make
keyboard selections.
YEAR
-=-=-
identifies the current timeframe for all program functions and all
program functions are delimited by year. That is, the program is stuck in
whatever year is listed on the status line at the bottom of the screen. If
you have selected 1920 the chances are good that you will see a lot of zeros
and get a lot of no data exists messages. The year 1993 and the sport running
should be selected for the sample data file "Sample O. Data."
INQUIRY
-=-=-=-
identifies functions associated with the current user account and only this
current user's account. It identifies functions associated with the current
INQUIRY DEFINITION set by the user. It includes all entries that occur
within the distance range set by the user and either includes current sport
entries only or, entries regardless of sport designation. In other words...
single sport entries relative to your distance inquiry or any and every data
entry regardless of sport relative to the distance inquiry selected. These
distance inquiries are made in the INQUIRY function found in the FILE pull
down window. All functions found in the VIEW and GRAPH pull down windows will
obey whatever the current INQUIRY DEFINITION or INQUIRY is at all times!

ENTER
-=-=-
EVENT DATA - Enter the performance data for a particular
sport. You will need to know five things; the date,
your age, weight, the performance distance, time,
and of course, you will have chosen the sport and
set the incline / grade to the appropriate percentage.
Pressing ENTER at the comment prompt without typing
anything will result in a "No comment entered..."
message display. It is not necessary to enter a
comment all of the time, just press ENTER.
Use the 'Miles Meters Yards' conversion utility found
in the VIEW pull down window before choosing this
feature if you want to create a usable default distance
that will save a little time typing.
DEFAULT YEAR - Enter the performance YEAR for FitnessMate to
report on. That is, the program is stationed in
whatever year is listed on the status line at the
bottom of the screen. If you have selected 1920 the
chances are good that you will see a lot of zeros
and get a lot of no data exists messages. The year
1993 should be selected for the sample data file
"Sample O. Data." YEAR identifies the current
timeframe for all program functions and all program
functions are delimited by year.
NEW USER - Open a new FitnessMate user account.
INCLINE / GRADE - Enter the incline / grade for FitnessMate to use
in determining performance parameters. It is very
important to have this setting correct as many
performance parameters such as VO2max., METS, etc.;
will be significantly affected by this setting.
The program is stationed in whatever percent incline /
grade is listed on the status line at the bottom of the
screen. Each time you enter data the current incline /
grade will be used in determining your performance
parameters. You may or may not have a good concept of
what percent incline / grade is like. If you do not,
or are not sure, an incline / grade of 0% is considered
a flat performance surface. Leaving the grade set at
0% will imply that you are performing on a flat surface.
A fairly good analogy is a scale from 0% to 10% where
0% is a flat course and 10% is almost mountain climbing.
This setting will necessarily need to be guessed at by
just about everyone, all the time or most of the time.
It does make a significant difference so you will need
to at least be consistent in your guess for the same
course. Repair Entry will also repair old entries using
the current incline / grade setting. In the past
FitnessMate has assumed a 5% grade which may or may not
be appropriate for you now. Please give this setting
serious consideration before entering performance data.
If you do not want to mess around with this feature it
is fine to set it (or leave it at 0%) and leave it set.
The grade / incline setting defaults to the value that
was last set and retains this value until it is changed.
The only disadvantage to doing this is that FitnessMate
will never give you the extra credit you deserve for
doing hill workouts or hilly courses.
REPAIR ENTRY - Fix a data entry error that has been saved to disk.
There are of course, many mistakes that can be made when
entering data. It is easy to do and we all have done it.
Now fixing it is as easy as reentering the data, even
though it may have been saved to disk long ago. When
you choose this feature you will first be asked to recall
the past entry you want to repair. Next you will be
asked to review the entry and asked again if you want to
repair it or not. If you say "yes," you need to be
prepared to reenter the data. Pressing ENTER at the
comment prompt without typing anything will result in the
previously entered comment being used. This will save
having to retype an entire comment when it is correct and
does not need to be changed. It can of course be changed
if you want to change it but pressing ENTER will not
result in a "No comment entered..." message as it does
when entering data (ENTER... Event Data).
SET INQUIRY
-=-=-=-=-=-
INQUIRY - Enter the performance inquiry for a particular distance.
All functions found in the VIEW and GRAPH pull down windows
will obey whatever the current INQUIRY DEFINITION or INQUIRY
is at all times! As you can see this is an integral part of
the program and many of FitnessMate's diverse functions depend
on the current INQUIRY to do their jobs. Use this to zero in
on specific distance related performance questions that you
have... and discover!
-=-=-=-=-=-
OPEN USER - Open an existing FitnessMate user account.
SAVE DATA - Manually save the data entered using ENTER EVENT DATA and
deciding not to save. If after reviewing the individual
SUMMARY REPORT you decide the data is satisfactory you can
save it using this feature. No need to worry about data
duplication as the program checks and verifies that it is
not duplicating a save before it executes the save.
DELETE USER - Delete a FitnessMate user account from the master file.
The purpose of this feature is to free up disk space as
users leave the sphere of your group, club, etc.;
CLOSE USER - Close the current FitnessMate user account and immediately
proceed to open another FitnessMate user account.

average. To average, add all the entry values and divide
by the number of entries. To mean, sort all the entry
values and find the middle value. What's the difference?
An average can sometimes be distorted by extreme high or low
values. A mean 'throws out' these extreme high and low

basically unaltered by a stupendous or bad performance.
Under certain circumstances the 'mean' can be a more

TABLE - For viewing conversion of FEET / YARDS / METERS / MILES.
MILE YD METER - Since FitnessMate requires distances to
be entered in meters, this helps to
efficiently convert to meters when miles or
yards is known. When miles or yards are known
but meters are not use this feature first before
choosing to enter the performance data. The
miles to meters to yards conversion done here is
then displayed when entering the performance
data. First convert then enter your data.
Make your entry "3.1 miles", or "100 yards", or
"5000 meters" or for short "3.1 mi", or "100 ya",
or "5000 me". The idea of course, is to make the
conversion to meters as this is what FitnessMate
requires.

one of the two graphing colors. There are now five FONT
selections that can be made i.e. 1 - 5. They are all
12 point and below sized and are used as the menu font,

WHAT'S NEW ABOUT FITNESSMATE?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
1.) The setup has been fixed / upgraded to 256 color bitmapped graphics.
Those of you owning less than the latest, fastest machine, will no
longer have to suffer through the slow moving opening screen. The
new routines are written in assembler and fly in comparison. I am
on the lookout for good sports related bitmapped graphics files.
When I encounter one or have one made the opening screens will be
upgraded again. If you know of any or can help out please advise.
2.) The change colors / font routine has been fixed up a little.
Miscellaneous this and that to reduce the conventional memory
requirements. As I said I hope to reduce this further in future
releases. Currently approximately 575K is required to give
FitnessMate sufficient room to cache displays and fonts in. I have
taken out the section of code that formerly dumped the user to DOS
in the event that font memory was unavailable. This will no longer
happen and an attempt to use a more memory efficient font will be
made. If you have less than the available conventional memory
requirement you will receive insufficient memory error messages,
and fonts will either change or not materialize at all. At least
you will not be rudely dumped back to DOS and can experience the
effects of this phenomenon first hand. I also fixed the new user
routine and touched up a couple of others.
3.) The rest from v.2.5 release I have left in because they remain
current and I have not changed them...
4.) The user interface has been upgraded to permit the pull down windows
to be drawn transparently over background displays. This allows
screen reports to remain on the screen for longer periods of time.
While you are deciding what to do next the last display will remain
on the screen in most cases. Hitting the escape key or pressing the
right mouse button will clear the current pull down window from the
screen.
5.) A mouse is no longer a requirement. The program will function almost
identically with or without one installed. There are some very small
differences but none that prevent the program from being used or are
a nuisance to the user. The program still runs the smoothest when a
mouse is used.
6.) I have written and introduced new graphics mode text input routines.
Inputting data into the program is now much improved...
mixing graphics and text has always been a problem and that is why
I have not done it prior to this release. The previous input
routines were poor but acceptable and permitted me to work on other
more important aspects of FitnessMate.
7.) Formerly 77 character performance comments have been increased to
122 characters. As always just hit enter if you have nothing to say.
But if you are like me then you will like the extra room to remark
about the kids and the animals and shopping etc. Let me know if you
want more than this.
8.) All of the program "Print Inquiry" and "Retrieve Past Performance"
reports have had line feeds added to them. Let me know if you don't
like them otherwise I will assume that they are ok.
9.) VO2max. has been separated to reflect the fact that two different
formulas are used in determining this performance parameter. The
two formulas have been widely accepted by the athletic and medical
community at large, and for many years this has been so. Both
methods indirectly determine VO2max. mathematically and both formulas
behave a little differently under different conditions. Both of them
incorporate the current incline / grade setting into their equation,
as well as body weight etc.; Now you can go by whichever one you use or
like better. There is more information under their respective Graph
menu function descriptions. This has not changed however, I stopped
the graphing of ml/min. and ml/kg/min for both formulas. The
calculation of these performance parameters is being done strictly
according to the formulas I have. I was not satisfied that the
conversion to the other output for each particular formula was
producing accurate information. It may have been accurate but until
I can know this with certainty I have stopped doing it.
10.) I'm glad to see that the FitnessMate support conference has been
used regularly for correspondence and seems to be off to a pretty good
start. Please feel free to call (DATA of course) and leave a message.
I am always happy to hear from you, good or bad, though thankfully it
has mostly been good.
11.) I attended the Lake County Races Moore Marathon for the first time
(Zion, IL 4/25/93) and it was everything I had heard that it was and
`moore.` A great course, great people, and great fun! I recommend it.
Write for information... LCR, P.O.Box 349, Deerfield, IL 60015.
12.) Please support software authors and the companies that produce the
software products you want and use.
13.) Thank you, registered FitnessMate user. Go beyond best!
